Why is computer repair synonymous with call centers? Can you troubleshoot and repair your computer on your own? Yes, you can. You don’t need to dial an IT services company for that. Today, we will discuss something called disk defragmentation.
Defragmentation, as the term suggests, is the opposite of fragmentation. It is a way to re-arrange the files in the disk for optimum performance. Defragmentation is typically done when a computer system becomes slow and the poor speed is attributed to the large amount of data stored in it. Let us look at how you apply the method of defragmentation to improve your computer’s performance.
Here are the steps to defragment a disk in your system:
1. Open the My Computer window.
2. Select the local disk you want to defragment, if you have multiple disks, or select the default one.
3. Right-click the selected disk.
4. Select the Properties option.
5. Click the Tools tab.
6. Click the Defragment Now button.
7. Start the defragmentation process by clicking the Defragment button.
The process of defragmentation may take hours. You may pause and resume the process at your convenience.
The defragmentation process described above is for Windows XP based system.
