Long hours in front of the computer, whether at office or home, will require anybody to sip coffee or wine occasionally. And it is more than obvious that sometime or the other one will end up spilling it on the keyboard. Yes, precaution is important but what is to be done once the injury has occurred? Looking for a computer doctor may be a good idea but the immediate action should be applying first aid. Let us see what you should after some liquid has spilled on to your keyboard.
1. Disconnect the keyboard from the computer by pulling off its plug.
2. Turn the keyboard upside down so that the liquid flows off the surface.
3. If the liquid spilled is water, you do not need to worry too much. Use a hair dryer or a similar instrument to dry the keyboard.
4. If the liquid spilled is a sweet or sticky beverage, use running water to clean the keyboard. However, make sure that you do not use too much water. Use a hair dryer to dry the wet keyboard.
5. Plug the keyboard back into the computer after you have waited for some time.
Make sure that the keyboard is completely dry before plugging it back.
The keyboard, if dried properly and in time, will function properly. If it does not, get a second opinion. Sometimes, keyboards are replaced after a liquid has been spilled on it; this happens because of the delay in taking action.
