In the last two posts, we discussed how we can improve the computer’s performance by deleting unnecessary files. It is better to take action before a computer starts performing badly. General computer repair is not a difficult task; the difficulty lies in resolving the unusual problems that need the eye of a PC doctor.
Today, we will discuss an important computer maintenance tool. This tool is called Disk Cleanup. As the term suggests, the tool helps clean up the space in your computer’s local disk. Disk Cleanup helps free up space in the hard disk so that this space can be utilized by programs for memory purposes.
Here are the steps for disk clean-up:
1. Click the Start button.
2. Select the All Programs option.
3. Select the Accessories option.
4. Select the System Tools option.
5. Click the Disk Cleanup option.
6. Select the disk to be cleaned up from the drop-down menu.
7. Click the OK button. After a few minutes, a pop-window for Disk Cleanup will appear.
8. Select (or deselect) the files options you want to delete (or preserve). You may go for more options in the More Options tab.
9. Click the OK button.
10. Click the Yes button. You may cancel the cleaning up process any time.
Your system slows down a bit when the Disk Cleanup process is on. It is better to close all the other application while the process is on. Depending on the number of files to be deleted, the process may take anything from a few minutes to an hour or two to complete.
